Overview

Nestled in the heart of Umbai, Malacca, Roti Sarang Burung Umbai offers a culinary experience that beautifully bridges Johor and Melaka flavors with traditional Malaysian street food. This humble restaurant, located near Tokong Cina Umbai along Jalan Telok Mas, has garnered a loyal following for its inviting breakfast spread and authentic fusion dishes that encapsulate the region’s rich gastronomic heritage.

The highlight, unsurprisingly, is the Roti Sarang Burung — a delicate roti canai skillfully layered and topped with runny eggs and savory minced meat. This dish delivers a harmony of textures: the soft, slightly crispy roti paired with the richness of eggs and the fragrant, spiced minced beef creates a comforting yet vibrant ensemble. The craftsmanship here is evident, with dedicated cooks ensuring each piece is made fresh and with care, offering a consistent quality that keeps patrons returning.

Beyond the signature roti, their mee kari and nasi lemak reflect the subtle nuances of local flavors, balancing creamy, aromatic broths with the occasional playful kick of sambal. The nasi lemak, in particular, carries a mild heat level, suitable for those who prefer a gentle spice rather than an overwhelming blaze. Traditional favorites such as murtabak daging and lontong further complement the menu, enhancing its appeal to both locals and visitors seeking genuine taste profiles that echo Malay culinary roots.

The satay beef, known locally as satay manis, is another standout, marinated to impart a sweet yet savory glaze that harmonizes perfectly with the rich, crunchy peanut sauce served alongside. This dish perfectly represents the Muar-style grilling tradition, blending juicy textures with smoky undertones in an intimate street-side setting.

What makes dining at Roti Sarang Burung Umbai especially enjoyable is not just the food but the atmosphere and service. Despite being a modest roadside eatery, the space pulses with a warm, unpretentious vibe ideal for morning breakfasts or casual meals throughout the day. The efficient team behind the scenes, particularly those preparing the roti canai, keep guests satisfied while maintaining speedy service during peak hours.

For travelers and food enthusiasts exploring Malacca, this establishment offers more than just meals—it presents a culinary snapshot of the region’s diverse Malay palate. Whether it’s the iconic roti sarang burung or a steaming cup of perfectly balanced teh tarik, the experience here promises authenticity infused with a local flair. This makes Roti Sarang Burung Umbai a must-visit for anyone eager to explore Malaysia’s comfort food culture in a genuine and approachable setting.

highly recommended menu at this stall: 1. roti sarang burung (roti canai with eggs & minced meat. 2. nasi lemak (sambal a little bit spicy for those who don't like spicy food) 3. Satay Manis. The satay is sweet and well marinated. The kuah kacang so delicious. Others are curry mee, all varians of roti canai, and meat curry.

Perfect place for a morning breakfast. It serve a food style Johor-Melaka, Start off with 1. Roti Canai Sarang Burung - top with Shredded Beef Rendang - taste 9/10, the roti canai is soft and not too oily, and perfect 2 runny eggs in the middle pair with beef rendang. 2. Lontong. Yes, this is must try since the taste similar to Johor Lontong and with creamy broth and authentic taste. The Nasi Impit is soft so it's nice to eat together. 3. Murtabak Daging. -8.5/10 - filled with beef and adequate amount of onion inside. Would suggesy for 2 person instead of one since the size is quite big. 4. Sate Ayam& Daging - Muar style sate daging where you can taste the spice out. Also perfect if eat without the kuah kacang. 5. Teh Tarik, - Not too sweet, perfect taste for a morning teh tarik and I order it after tasting a good Teh ais with the assumption "Kalau teh ais sedap mesti teh tarik sedap" and yes, It's correct decision. Overall, will definitely visit again and put as a must stop when visit melaka

The roti sarang burung is a must try. Service is quite fast as they have 2 man assigned for roti canai preparation. Their Mee Kari, I don't really like it but the taste is not that bad. On external stall, got satay.. the taste is sweet but the size is too small! 1 ringgit for 1 tiny satay.
